How AI Citation Registries Work
An AI Citation Registry is a machine-readable publishing system designed so artificial intelligence systems can reliably identify authoritative sources, attribute statements to the correct authority, and cite information with clear provenance and timestamps.
Aigistry applies this structure to government communications by preserving the relationship between a verified government authority, its GovTech Provider, the publication itself, and the machine-readable signals associated with that publication.
Government agencies continue publishing through the systems they already use. Approved GovTech Providers connect those workflows to Aigistry, while the National AI Feed operates as the downstream machine-readable attribution layer.

Why the Structure Matters
When AI systems answer civic questions, they must determine which source is authoritative, who issued the information, where it applies, when it was published, and whether the source context has been preserved.
Aigistry provides structured signals that make those relationships more explicit.
- Authority: identifies the verified government authority responsible for the publication.
- Jurisdiction: preserves the geographic, legal, or operational scope associated with the information.
- Provenance: preserves source references and the relationship between the publication and the authority behind it.
- Timing: records publication and signing timestamps so downstream systems can better evaluate recency.
- Provider relationship: identifies the approved GovTech Provider submitting the publication on behalf of the verified authority.
- Integrity: cryptographic signing and record hashes provide additional machine-readable verification signals.
Approved GovTech Provider systems act as the operational layer before downstream registry processing. Aigistry standardizes these signals and publishes eligible records through the National AI Feed.
Using the National AI Feed
Aigistry does not replace an agency website, GovTech communication platform, emergency notification system, press process, civic engagement system, or internal approval workflow.
The agency continues using its existing environment. The GovTech Provider maintains the agency relationship and integrates National AI Feed publishing into the systems it already operates.
Government agencies do not receive direct Aigistry publishing accounts. Participation occurs through approved GovTech Providers and verified Authority Records.
- Provider-led participation: approved GovTech Providers create and manage Authority Records on behalf of government authorities they serve.
- Existing workflows remain in place: agencies continue creating, approving, and publishing information through their current systems.
- Structured publication: providers submit eligible records through the Provider API using the associated Authority Record.
- Verified attribution: Aigistry preserves the relationship between the publication, government authority, jurisdiction, Provider, source, and timestamps.
- Machine-readable integrity: eligible publications are processed into structured National AI Feed records with provenance and cryptographic integrity signals.
- Neutral downstream infrastructure: Aigistry operates as an attribution layer rather than as an agency-facing publishing platform, CMS, alerting system, or engagement product.
The GovTech Provider remains the operational channel. The Authority Record establishes the verified relationship. The National AI Feed preserves the machine-readable attribution layer downstream.
